Sir Gerry hits out at NHS management

by Robert Hunt on March 28, 2009

I must recommend a superb article in today’s Daily Telegraph which is essential reading for anyone interested in the future of the NHS.

In an article entitled ‘Cure the NHS with far fewer managers’, Sir Gerry Robinson argues that too many managers with too little accountability are causing serious damage.  He says the answer is far fewer – but far better – people managing the health service.

Sir Gerry does, of course, have a first class record in managing some major companies. He also has previous experience with the NHS through the time he spent with Rotherham Foundation Trust hospital three years ago for a BBC documentary series.

His comments come in the wake of news that the number of NHS managers has rocketed over the last few years.
