Heducation – what a wonderful thing!

by Robert Hunt on April 2, 2009

I had to attend a meeting today at a place where parking is very difficult. I was very pleased, therefore, to be sent a parking pass in advance. However, I could not fail to notice that the printed pass bore the words ‘Complementary Parking Permit.’

Complementary? Oh really? What was it supposed to complement?

Once inside and on my way to my meeting I passed a large printed poster advertising a forthcoming event, tickets for which were shown as costing ‘Fourty pounds’.  I assume they meant ‘forty’.

Am I nit-picking? Not really, after all I was at a British university where one would expect standards of English to be beyond reproach!
