Companies always seem keen to measure their return on investment (ROI) in tangibles such as plant and equipment. But at Fuse Learning we find that many do not realise that they can also effectively measure the ROI on the investment in training.
Introducing its latest Learning and Development Survey the CIPD says: ‘sweeping change is on the agenda for the delivery of training….moves towards more strategic implementation, greater scrutiny of programmes delivered, and even greater emphasis on the growing role of line managers as a result of the recession.’
There is no mention of ROI as such, but fortunately, it does say that 60% of respondents anticipate a greater emphasis on the monitoring and evaluation of training effectiveness, so that organisations continue to offer training that has the biggest impact on the business bottom line.
In our experience, however, too few organisations adopt a robust and tested methodology that really enables them to evaluate their training.
