No funding for training?

by Robert Hunt on May 12, 2009

Following the prediction that the UK will not achieve the Leitch Review target for equipping people with basic skills by 2020 comes a claim from the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) that funding for training is drying up.

David Frost of the BCC says that the Learning and Skills Council has consistently said it was imperative more employers invest in training, especially during a recession and that training providers were effectively told that there was no cap on the contracts they held with the LSC.

However, in spite of the LSC’s reassurances, because of the large number of employers recruited, it is now apparent that many providers will not receive funding, with some having to turn employers away from participation in apprenticeships and Train to Gain as programmes have run out of money.

Another case of the government not putting its money where its mouth is?
