The NHS, like every responsible employer, would say that it deplores bullying of any kind in the workplace, but a story in the Edinburgh Evening News by health correspondent Adam Morris presents a different picture.
Mr Morris, reporting on the findings of an official NHS Lothian staff survey, says that around 30 managers – nearly a fifth of the total – say they had been bullied in the last year.
The story finishes with the following quote from Alan Boyter, NHS Lothian’s director of human resources and organisational development. He said “Drilling down into the detail of responses will provide the information that will be used to develop proactive solutions to staff issues.”
Very reassuring – I think – as I don’t really know what he means.
Reading the story again I double-checked the figures. Yep, NHS Lothian has 139 ‘managers’. No comment!
