IT glitch for IT Minister

by Robert Hunt on June 9, 2009

The news that Mike O’Brien, the MP for my home area of North Warwickshire, has become the latest minister to take charge of NHS IT matters sent me scurrying to his website – only to find that it was down. Oh dear, not a good start!

However, if you want to know more about the former Solicitor General who has accepted what many would regard as a poisoned chalice, then that watchdog of all NHS IT matters, e-health-insider, carries the full story.

Mike O’Brien has held a number of junior ministerial posts, but taking on NHS IT will I’m sure, be a real challenge. He is, of course, only the latest in a series of ministers who have held the job – which also covers several other areas of NHS operations.

It doesn’t take a genius to predict that he will have moved on to another post long before the NHS IT programme is fully up and running.
