It’s no wonder we have a growing population of unemployed – and unemployable – young people, given the latest SATS results.
The figures show that 4 out of 10 children leaving primary school do not have a basic grasp of the ‘3 R’s’ – basic literacy and numeracy.
How on earth can children get to the age of 11 and still be unable to read or write?
Schools minister Diana Johnson, commenting on the fact that the results were worse than last year, said they were “disappointing”.
Disappointing? No, a disaster!
Tell me, Minister, how are we going to have that much-vaunted ‘World Class’ skills base by 2020 if things continue like this?
