Sorry, I was just composing a job ad for MPs, prompted by the realisation that when they do finally bother to show up in the House of Commons again they will have just enjoyed a three month summer holiday. Beat that if you can!
Of course there are the honourable few who work their socks off for their constituents and don’t get too creative with their expenses, but they really are the few. Maybe I’m biased because I used to live in a Labour stronghold where we never saw our MP from one election to another.
Fortunately constituency boundary changes put paid to him and his ilk! But unfortunately we were then saddled with a rent-a-gob who was only interested (it seemed) in raising their personal profile.
What does this have to do with the price of corn? Simply that while people like me stress the importance of staff training and development, you can become an MP, get paid loads of lolly and take the summer off without having any qualifications or experience.
I think I’ll start buying Lottery tickets!
