Where’s the Revolution then?

by Robert Hunt on October 6, 2009

According to a government press release issued today, something called the Learning Revolution Festival has started today. But from what I have found so far, this nationwide revolution appears to be anything but!

Apparently a junior minister ‘kicked off’ (their words) the revolution at an event in London today. The blurb says he ‘…joins a huge range of key informal adult learning stakeholders today for the launch of the Learning Revolution Festival, a month-long celebration of informal adult learning and the benefits it brings for individuals, families, businesses and communities.‘

Great stuff! Excited, I went to the dedicated website and keyed in my (urban) postcode to find events near to me. Zilch. So then I tried several other postcodes in various parts of the country. Nothing!

The press release says ‘Throughout  the Learning Revolution Festival hundreds of events, such as taster sessions, workshops, demonstrations, performances, competitions and classes, will take place across England giving current learners the chance to celebrate what they enjoy and others the opportunity to try something completely new. By highlighting the richness and sheer diversity of what’s available, the Learning Revolution Festival will encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in learning.’

Oh really? Where?
