I’m trying to work out where the blame lies for the current postal dispute. Is it stubborn workers, or arrogant management?
It’s probably a bit of both. No one likes change and staff at all levels in the Royal Mail / Post Office have long been protected from some of the harsh realities of life. But none of us is owed a living and if we don’t perform then we are out.
Everyone knows the postal sector has changed enormously over the years. Email has made a huge dent in the letter business and the Royal Mail has also seen its monopoly eroded by all sorts of alternative mail and courier services. But at the same time there has been a massive growth in internet shopping.
So why can’t everyone involved wake up, take a long hard look at what is going on and work together to salvage what is left of the Royal Mail – and also try to win back business?
Meanwhile, a friend who has a thriving Internet business supplying specialist shops around the country with craft products, is in the process of handing over all of her deliveries to one of the parcel delivery companies. Another few thousand pounds a year the Royal Mail has lost!
