Older workers can make a very valuable contribution, with their long experience and often extensive knowledge. Yet once again evidence seems to indicate that many are ignored when companies are recruiting.
According to a survey conducted for Skilledpeople.com one in six people aged over 50 feel they are treated like second-class citizens when applying for jobs.
But not only do private sector organisations come under fire in the survey report, but Job Centres too. They were variously described as patronising, unhelpful, disrespectful and totally failing to understand the value of experienced older workers within the workplace.
So much for government initiatives to get people off the rock’ n roll and into paid employment!
