UK managers are not rated highly, a new research study indicates. So its bad news for managers who think they do a good job – only half of employees in the UK rate their managers as effective, according to research which covered more than 22,000 people in 18 countries.
The Kenexa Research Institute survey shows that a ‘good manager’ has a significant impact on the engagement levels of those workers on their teams and on their overall perception of the company.
The research found that employees in the UK define a ‘good manager’ as someone who keeps his/her commitments, evaluates employees’ performance fairly, makes use of employees ideas, quickly solves problems and practices open, two-way communication. So not very good news for UK management.
Interestingly, employees in India reported the highest ratings of managerial effectiveness. And the lowest? Our friends across the other side of La Manche! Sacre bleu!
