Workplace Safety – A Step Too Far?

by Robert Hunt on January 19, 2010

I hope that the 20,000 staff of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) remembered to reverse park this morning – otherwise they apparently face the threat of disciplinary action.

Once they are inside their offices they also need to remember to hold onto handrails when using the stairs – or again they could be in trouble.

Of course safety in the workplace is essential – a quick look at the Health & Safety executive website reveals the extent of injuries suffered by people at work. But surely imposing these sorts of rules is taking things too far?

What next, issuing staff with plastic cutlery in case they cut themselves on knives when having lunch in the canteen?

Thanks to the Daily Mail for highlighting this gem.
