Call for more line manager training in people management

by Robert Hunt on May 6, 2010

According to a new study, line managers are not equipped to carry out various people management tasks as they lack the appropriate training.

Among the training gaps identified in the 2010 IRS Line Manager Training Survey are those to do with staff development, recruitment and retention, absence management and grievance handling

The study, compiled from responses from 1243 HR professionals, reveals that many line managers are given responsibility for a range of personnel-related tasks without being given the necessary training.

While eight out of 10 respondents said that training should be compulsory nearly two thirds said they do not rate line managers in their own organisation.
