Times may be tough in the NHS, but that has not stopped one Ambulance Trust from spending £10,000 on a survey asking staff to decide how ‘cool’ various people are or were – including Adolf Hitler!
The Daily Mail says that the West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust which commissioned the survey is already £4 million overspent and has implemented cost-cutting measures.
The survey findings will, says the Trust, ‘form the basis of a research project into ‘Making Leadership Cool: How Do Emerging Leaders Want to be Supported and Managed.’
That’s all very well, but Adolf Hitler?
In its defence the Trust said that ‘Adolf Hitler’s style galvanised a country into terrible things but it did galvanise a country. Perhaps in hindsight a better example could have been used.’ Yes, well…!
The nine assorted other people whom staff were asked to rate included business people, politicians and sportsmen. All were men, including Gordon Brown, and so perhaps Margaret Thatcher would have been a better choice?
