More evidence that holidays cause stress

by Robert Hunt on July 23, 2010

Taking holidays is not a good idea. At least, that could be one of the conclusions we might draw from research by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM) which claims that 40 per cent of us feel more stressed when we return from leave.

The research, conducted among almost 2,500 UK managers also reveals over one-third of UK workers work while on holiday, with one in ten going into the office.

Of those who do work when they are supposed to be taking time off 80 per cent frequently respond to emails and almost half take phone calls. Smartphones are said to be the main culprits for holiday work, with over two-thirds of respondents admit to checking them at least once a day, if not more.

Why is it that we think the organisations we work for cannot operate without us for a couple of weeks?
