Learning and development body under fire: there must be a few red faces at the CIPD – which until now has tended to be regarded as the leading authority in its field – following publication of its report on quangos which is wildly inaccurate and has angered a lot of people.
So serious are the errors – which include suggesting that charities NIACE and LSN are government-funded quangos ripe for culling – that all reference to the report has been removed from the CIPD website and its £405,000 p.a. chief executive Jackie Orme has had to apologise to the bodies concerned.
However, the Daily Telegraph (and other media) ran a story about the report without checking the facts – presumably assuming that such a reputable body as the CIPD would have ensured that the details were correct before release.
Dr David Collins, Chief Executive of the Learning and Skills Improvement Service, was so angry that he wrote a strongly worded letter to the paper attacking the CIPD for its ‘wildly inaccurate report’.
Letters of complaint were also sent by NIACE and LSN and it is a pity that the CIPD does not see fit to carry an apology on its website.
Thanks to Donald Clark and his Plan B blog for some of the above.
